Lewis Hamilton‘s recent signing with the Ferrari F1 team has shot the driver market into utter chaos. A lot has already been said about Hamilton’s sensational move and his former Mercedes teammate, Valtteri Bottas, has also recently taken the time to share his opinion on it.

Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were teammates at Mercedes for five years and during that time, they enjoyed immense success as a driver pairing. However, the recent switch from the Brit has surprised Bottas immensely.

At the Stake F1 team’s 2024 car launch event, the Finn was asked by Sky Sports to share his opinion on the 39-year-old’s Ferrari switch and while talking about the same, he said,

I never thought it could happen. But yeah, for sure, in a certain way it was a surprise, and also the timing, I think shocked everybody. But that's Formula 1, things happen, and all good things, unfortunately, come to an end but new doors open. I am happy for Lewis.

Bottas has made it quite clear that at first instance, he was surprised at Hamilton’s decision just like the rest of the world. However, he has also made it known that unpredictability is a huge part of the sport and that he is very happy for his former teammate to be trying his hands at winning another world championship with a mighty team like Ferrari.

Valtteri Bottas could be a potential candidate for Mercedes

While Valtteri Bottas has oozed positivity around Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 move to Ferrari, the vacant seat at Mercedes could entice the former to get it once again.

He was stressed on the same by Sky Sports, after his verdict on Lewis, and while specifically talking about the Mercedes seat, he said,

Top secret, I was in Brackley I can confirm, the day before but that was a pit of a coincidence.

Bottas is very familiar with how things are done at Mercedes. While not many see him as a candidate for the seat, there could arise a scenario where he is again seen wearing the famous black gear of the German outfit.

As things stand, the lights of Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz, and Fernando Alonso are being seen as the frontrunners to secure the Mercedes 2025 seat alongside George Russell. The driver market has a knack for coming up with out-of-blue surprises and who knows, if the stars align, Bottas might get the coveted seat once again.
