Could Bottas’s efforts bring a Finnish GP to F1?
Finland is the birthplace of multiple F1 drivers such as Kimi Raikkonen and Mika Hakkinen. Subsequently, the Nordic country is highly regarded in the motorsport world. Yet, Formula 1 has failed to find an ideal track to race on in Finland. The KymiRing circuit is FIA certified. As such it can host a GP if the track is rescued by Bottas or a different party altogether.
The circuit is believed to owe €25 million which includes the contractual penalties of having to cancel the races for MotoGP, Nitro Rallycross, and World Motocross series. As such, any investor looking to save the project will have to have some deep pockets. Valtteri Bottas could serve as one of the ideal candidates due to his connections in F1 including the likes of Austrian billionaire Toto Wolff.
Thus, Valtteri Bottas is interested to safeguard the prospects of a Grade One race track in his home country. The 33-year-old is convinced that F1 is in desperate need to have a race in Finland. Subsequently, the Finn is ready to help the KymiRing track owners in aiding their efforts to get the track out of the crisis. It will be interesting to see if these talks do turn into an agreement in the coming weeks.
