“Verstappen would have failed 2 tenths faster” – Fans react as Sergio Perez has an embarrassing fail at doing Donuts in Milton Keynes

Sergio Perez stalled the Red Bull car while trying to do donuts

Sergio Perez joined Red Bull Racing in 2021 after establishing himself as a strong and consistent Formula 1 driver. In the two seasons at the Austrian team, the Mexican driver has complimented Max Verstappen albeit being forced to play second fiddle to the Dutchman. Perez has won three races for Red Bull, bagging two of them in 2022. Sergio has emphasized being treated as an equal in the team, however, there have been tensions between Sergio and Verstappen in recent times.

Recently, Red Bull held a promotional event at its home, Milton Keynes, ‘Checo’ was at the forefront of the event, putting on an exciting display for the fans. As is the norm for F1 show runs, Sergio Perez tried his hands at doing donuts in older machinery. The 33-year-old turned the car in a bid to start spinning but disaster struck, as the car stalled, forcing the crew at the site to push the car out after failing to get it back running again.

This is a major embarrassment to the Mexican driver, any Formula 1 driver is understood to be capable of doing donuts at will, especially as donuts are a way of celebrating a championship victory or even the end of a season. Sergio Perez’s struggle was one not expected of one of the best drivers of the world, especially after the 33-year-old’s stellar donuts in Las Vegas this year. After all, the sight of an F1 car doing donuts is one to behold, who can forget them being done each year at the season finale in Abu Dhabi?

When the video was posted on Reddit, fans were amused seeing such a competitive driver failing to do a rather simple thing. Some fans brought up the Red Bull management’s opinion of how Max Verstappen is always a class above Perez, with one fan mentioning, “Verstappen would have failed 2 tenths faster,” a reference to Dr. Helmut Marko’s famous quote. While another user replied “His teammate is even better at donuts” joking about how the Dutchman has managed to outperform Perez in every single aspect of their lives.

This event is definitely one to forget for Sergio Perez, the 33-year-old would not have expected to not perform something which every racing driver loves to do. However, it would be better for the Mexican to try and leave this behind as he heads for his third season at the Red Bull team, hoping to finally out-race Verstappen and be a contender for the Formula 1 world title. 2023 is sure to witness a dramatic rivalry in Milton Keynes.
