The Belgian GP F1 sprint was delayed by over an hour due to wet weather conditions. The FIA took a cautious approach to prevent any mishap on track during the race after some hard lessons learned over the years. Birthday boy Fernando Alonso was looking to grab some points on his special day but things did not go well for the Spanish driver.
The 42-year-old started from the lower half of the Top 10 but gained a few places at the start of the race. Half the grid had pitted right when the safety car returned to the pits for a rolling start. Unfortunately, the Aston Martin driver had an early end to the F1 Sprint as he crashed his car into the wall during the first few laps of racing.
Fernando Alonso crashed out on Lap 4 of the Belgian GP F1 Sprint. This brought out the Safety Car once again at Spa-Francorchamps, with Oscar Piastri being chased by Max Verstappen for the lead. Certainly, the Spanish driver would not have been happy about losing control of the AMR23 on his birthday, with the Silverstone-based team losing out on a few points.

Fans unhappy with Fernando Alonso’s birthday crash at the Belgian GP
Fans on Twitter quickly shared their views on Alonso’s crash. Many users took a lighthearted take on this incident as they wished the 42-year-old a happy birthday despite the unfortunate crash. One fan wrote, “Happy Birthday I guess.” While another user replied, “What a birthday.” Although, another fan believed that Fernando Alonso should simply end his racing career. The fan commented, “Alonslow needs to retire.”
On the other hand, one user was furious with the FIA for calling the Safety Car after this crash with only 7 laps remaining. The user believed that a red flag would have been appropriate for such a scenario. The user said, “Just red flag it. A safety car in a sprint is ridiculous. This is not a race, this is a formality.” At the same time, another fan expressed their anger on race control. The fan stated, “Worst race this season for sure, unbelivable clownshow from the FIA.”
Thus, Fernando Alonso had an early end to the Belgian GP F1 Sprint. The Spanish driver had the opportunity to bring home a few points for his team on his birthday. However, that was not meant to be with the Aston Martin mechanics having a long night ahead to fix the car before Sunday’s race. Alonso would be looking to bounce back from this crash in the Grand Prix.
