The Hungarian GP weekend is underway. Mercedes seemed to be well prepared for the race at the Hungaroring. However, it seems that this weekend will be a difficult one for George Russell after a disappointing result in Qualifying despite teammate Lewis Hamilton‘s impressive pole position. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was left frustrated after Russell failed to make it out of Q1.
The two Mercedes cars remained in the danger zone during the ending stages of the first Qualifying session. Unfortunately, Russell failed to improve his time by the end of the session and finished Q1 in P18. Although, it is believed that traffic at the last minute of the session forced him out. Toto Wolff‘s reaction was caught right on camera.
The Mercedes team boss banged the desk in anger as he saw his driver failing to progress to Q2—certainly, a frustrating session for Russell and the Silver Arrows. Lewis Hamilton‘s surprise pole position would’ve only added to injury for the 25-year-old who will start the Hungarian GP from P18. Though, George Russell would be looking to turn things around in the race.

Fans on Twitter went on to share their views on Wolff’s action. One user was delighted to see the Mercedes boss furious in the team garage after Russell’s performance. The user said, “You love to see it.” While another fan claimed that the Silver Arrows were at fault for the elimination of the 25-year-old. The fan wrote, “Entirely Mercedes fault, give them 2 laps in Q1 when running in hard tyres.”
On the other hand, a Mercedes fan mentioned that they felt the same anger and frustration as Toto Wolff. The fan replied, “He’s so me.” Though, another unhappy Silver Arrows fan urged Wolff to improve the calls made by the Brackley-based team. The fan stated, “Tell his team to stop being so stupid.” One user joked that this is how they slam ants on a desk. The user commented, “me when I see an ant on the table.”
Thus, Toto Wolff was left furious after George Russell’s miserable run in Q1. The British driver will have a lot of work to do in the race on Sunday to bounce back from this setback. Although, Lewis Hamilton has proved that the Mercedes W14 has what it takes to outperform Max Verstappen at least in one-lap pace. As such, Russell might be able to make up places in the Grand Prix.
