The 2023 season was a bittersweet one for McLaren and their recruits Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The start to their year was marred with underwhelming results as their newest recruit Piastri, who came into F1 with huge promises being an F2 and F3 Champion, DNFed his debut race in Bahrain. And in the same outing, Norris found the bottommost spot. But from the British GP onwards, McLaren debuted their new setup that earned Norris P2 while Piastri finished fourth.
McLaren’s sudden spurt in racing pace earned them the coveted ‘best of the rest’ place in the Championship Standings. After ending the year at P4, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have both returned to their family and friends to enjoy the off-season. And Norris was recently spotted by the paparazzi cruising down the Monaco streets in his Lamborghini Miura. The seats of the sedan were filled with shopping bags which indicated that the papaya squad recruit had enjoyed quite a shopping spree to celebrate his F1 2023 season.
Lando Norris recovered from his accident at the Las Vegas GP quite well to resume racing at the Abu Dhabi GP. The Briton had crashed during the initial laps on the Vegas Strip and had to be admitted to the hospital. But later, he updated his fans on his recovery and was back to join McLaren for the season’s last race in the middle-east.

Current Formula 1 Champion Max Verstappen has made quite a few enemies on the grid since his phenomenal rise as Red Bull’s marqueé driver. The Dutchman has bagged a Championship hattrick now after his resounding victory in the recently-ended 2023 season. Despite some on-track clashes with Norris, he has regarded Lando Norris as his friend in the past when he invited the McLaren racer to his girlfriend Kelly Pique’s daughter’s birthday.
But when Lando was asked if he would consider Max as his ‘BFF’, he snapped at the reporter who was interviewing him.
He’s not my BFF. Don’t ever say that again. We respect each other and we get along.
While Lando Norris might deny being too close to Max Verstappen, the Dutchman does have other friends on the grid. He is quite close to Nyck deVries, the Formula E Champion who had a brief stint for AlphaTauri in 2023. Nyck’s results turned out to be unimpressive for Helmut Marko, the Red Bull Chief Advisor who swung an axe on the 28-year-old’s F1 career.
