The Qatar GP has kicked off today at Lusail and has had a dramatic start. Mercedes’ P2-P3 start did not go their way at all. Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and George Russell collided with each other at Turn One. The collision ended the race for Hamilton while Russell was left in the back of the grid and climbing his way back up.
Hamilton had the outside edge on Russell, between him and Max Verstappen. Trying to get the better of both of them, Hamilton pushed inside and did not leave any space for Russell. This ended with Hamilton’s right rear tire colliding with Russell’s front left. Hamilton was spun into the gravel following the incident, ending his race immediately.
Hamilton was heard on the team radio saying, “Yeah, I’m taken out by my own teammate.” Russell was also heard on the radio saying, “Two weeks in a row.” The duo has already been on the edge after they almost collided in Japan as well. Hamilton’s frustration was seemingly visible when he walked away from the track. Russell was also heard ranting on the radio, with his team telling him to focus on the race.

Lewis Hamilton to be investigated by the FIA after his crash with George Russell
With Verstappen winning the championship on Saturday, his former arch-rival Hamilton was fired up to take the maximum points today. However, his race ended as soon as it started when he collided with his own teammate at Turn One. Understandably frustrated, he was heard on the radio saying that he was take out by his own teammate.
However, his troubles have not ended yet. After his crash when the safety car was deployed, Hamilton went back to the paddocks on foot via the race track. As per regulations, he will be investigated for crossing the track on foot. Hamilton tussling with his teammate is however not a new sight. The ‘Silver War’ with Nico Rosberg is probably the best example of his past conflicts.
Hamilton’s early elimination today is a major setback in his quest for P2 in the WDC Standings this season. Trailing Sergio Perez by 29 points, he will now have to make up for the lost points in the next five races.
