The Formula One circus arrived in Abu Dhabi for the last race of the 2023 season earlier this week. And recently, the F1 world witnessed the last Qualifying of this year as the twenty drivers battled against each other for the coveted pole position on the Yas Marina Circuit. This is the place where Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen had their epic showdown during the tough title fight two years back. The Briton had been defeated at the hands of the Red Bull driver thus losing his chance to attain an 8th World Championship.

This time around in Abu Dhabi, Lewis Hamilton’s luck has not turn out to be any better till now. The 38-year-old went out on the tracks for the Qualifying hoping to at least make it into the top 10. Unfortunately, he was knocked out in Q2 with a P11 position as his own teammate George Russell did one last lap to break into Q1. The racer was crestfallen and frustrated too as he admitted to SkySports F1 that he wanted to end the last race of the year with a bang.

Now, Lewis’ work has been doubled since he will have to pull off another amazing 15-car overtaking stunt like he did in Las Vegas to get a place amongst the top 10 racers in the Main Race. He has placed the blame on the Mercedes W14 for his misfortunes.

There's something not right with the car, mate.
Lewis Hamilton said on the team radio, addressing his Race Engineer.

Lewis Hamilton had predicted disaster for Mercedes quite early on in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi weekend started with the regular Practice Sessions on Friday in the classical F1 style. During FP1, Lewis Hamilton skipped the session but his replacement, Frederik Vesti was down in the 12th spot. And during FP2, Hamilton did improve but only up to P8. Right after those results, he had claimed that the Abu Dhabi GP might turn out to be a tough but to crack for the Mercedes team.

Just going to try and see if there’s a way to get into Q3. We’ve had difficult qualifying sessions and getting out of Q1, into Q2, is always a tough battle. In other news, George Russell performed better than Lewis during the FP sessions and the Qualifying in Abu Dhabi. Despite it being only his second season as a Silver Arrows racer, Russell scored a top position at FP1 and also he will be starting the Main Race from the second row with a P4 spot on the starting grid.
