WATCH: Max Verstappen claims to not have any favorite NFL team since he ‘does not understand their rules’
Max Verstappen‘s meteoric rise in Formula 1 is something that many of his contemporary racers envy a lot. Entering the pinnacle of motorsports at a young age of only 17, Verstappen spent only half a season in AlphaTauri before Red Bull noticed his immense talent and recruited him in their main team.
Ever since then, the Dutchman has scripted history by becoming the debut Championship challenger who shattered Lewis Hamilton‘s winning streak to capture the F1 World title in 2021. And two years later, Verstappen’s dominance in the grid reached an all-time high as he broke several records by scoring 19 Grand Prix victories in a single season in 2023. Verstappen’s incredible career statistics have made him a global star and he is also the highest-paid driver in F1 as of now.
But despite gaining worldwide fame in a seemingly short period of time, Max Verstappen has remained fixated on just Formula 1 unlike other racers like Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo. Verstappen has not even been seen enjoying the NFL games or the Wimbledon matches where his contemporaries Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly were spotted. And recently, he has even claimed that he does not have a favorite NFL team because he does not understand their rules.
Max Verstappen declares aspirations to take his F1 Championship count further
Dutch racer Max Verstappen was almost a nobody in the 2021 season when he dared to put forth a challenge to seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton at only 24 years of age. Since then, Max has successfully shattered whatever dominance Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes had built over the turbo-hybrid era of Formula 1 and replaced it with his victories with the help of Red Bull.
In 2023, Max Verstappen scored 19 Grand Prix wins while his teammate at Red Bull scored 2. And out of the 23 Grands Prix that were held, only 1 was won by a non-Red Bull driver–the Singapore GP where Carlos Sainz became victorious. With 19 race wins to his name, Max easily scored the Formula 1 World Championship for a third time last year. And now, he has also said he does not want to stop at an F1 title hattrick as he is already looking towards winning a fourth Championship.
In other news, Max Verstappen was recently spotted testing the RB-20 that looked uncannily similar to the RB-19. 2023 was the year of the RB-19 as the car helped Red Bull score 22 Grands Prix victories out of the 23 that were held. It remains to be seen if the RB-20 becomes as successful as it’s predecessor had been.
