Sebastian Vettel has been the talk of the town ever since he announced his retirement from F1 at the end of the season but, sadly, has caught the attention for the wrong reasons after a crash in FP3 at the Hungarian GP. It was a disappointing end for him in the last session before qualifying. The German was evidently not happy with his error as this was one of the very few weekends that Aston Martin have looked competitive.

Aston Martin have been one of the few teams that have showed pace in bits and pieces but have never been really able to replicate that pace on race day, except for the one in Baku. But, it seemed like everything was coming together for them with Sebastian Vettel finishing P11 with a time of 1’20.383 during the first session and improved on the soft tyres as he registered a time of 1’19.253 and finished P7 in the second session.

The German was also able to find the grip in the third session but unfortunately lost the rear and crashed into the barriers in a wet affair in Hungary. Now, he’ll have to wait and see what kind of damage has been done to the car and whether it would be ready to go out on the track for the qualifying session. It would be a blow for the team if Sebastian isn’t able to feature in the qualifying session.

Sebastian Vettel sounded like a pretty pleased man after what he was able to do in the first two practice sessions. He said, “On the face of it, our pace today looked quite good – our long runs were quite competitive, and I think we did a solid job as a team, but the car is still quite difficult to drive.”

We have recently struggled to qualify in dry conditions so I am optimistic that tomorrow’s expected heavy rain will provide us with an opportunity.

I love driving this circuit and I really hope that the weather does not stop us putting on a show for the fans tomorrow.”

Sebastian Vettel’s crash means that there is a mountain of work ahead for the Aston Martin. But, we have seen them pull off miracles, like the one in Australia. Therefore, the German would be expecting something of that sort in Hungary too.
