Mercedes’ race in Canada concluded with Lewis Hamilton finishing 3rd in the race. Max Verstappen and Red Bull as per usual ended the race in P1. Red Bull has now won all the races this season so far. Whereas, former rivals Mercedes have not been able to achieve that. Mercedes’ last win came at the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix

However, post the Canadian Prix Toto Wolff made a bold prediction regarding Mercedes finally winning a race. When asked about whether the Brackley team could possibly threaten the Red Bull juggernaut, Wolff boldly answered Silverstone. According to Deni on Twitter, Tom Kristensen asked Toto, “If I say you are going to win a race this season, what track will that be at?” The Austrian replied, “Silverstone.”

Historically Silverstone has been a successful track for Mercedes, whereas Lewis has had maximum prosperity. The Brit has won the British GP 8 times tied with Hungary. Hamilton until 2022 held the record for winning a F1 race every year. The 38-year-old last stood on the top step of the podium at the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Will Mercedes’ decision to drop its zero-pod design yield any success?

Mercedes finally decided to drop their infamous zero-pod design and opt for more conventional sidepods. Due to insufficient results this year Mercedes were forced to make severe changes. However, their last few races have been quite impactful. The upgrades brought to Monaco saw brilliant results in Barcelona and Montreal.

Before the Spanish Grand Prix, Mercedes only had a lone podium clinched by Lewis Hamilton at the Australian Grand Prix. Soon after their upgrades in Montreal Hamilton and George Russell finished 4th and 5th, a fairly decent result for the team. Barcelona saw both the Briton teammates stand on the podium, giving the team its best result this season. Canada also led to a podium finish for Lewis Hamilton.

When it comes to the constructors’ standings Mercedes a few races back jumped their rivals, Aston Martin, putting the Brackley outfit in P3. With Fernando Alonso scoring the bulk of the points for his team, Aston Martin seems to have run into a problem. Hamilton with 102 points in the drivers’ standings is placed in P3, and his teammate trailing behind in 6th place.
