During the course of his lengthy and fruitful F1 career, Lewis Hamilton has accomplished some incredible feats. The British Grand Prix victory in 2020 that he achieved with his front left tyre almost at the rim ranks high on that list. Let’s keep in mind Lewis Hamilton’s incredible feat at Silverstone as we go on to the British Grand Prix. In order to win the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton raced with a failing front left tyre and reached 230 km/h down the Hangar Straight.

Racing from pole position towards a seventh triumph at the Northamptonshire track, Hamilton was on pace for a comfortable victory at the 2020 British Grand Prix. The Brit’s front left Pirelli tyre disintegrated on the final lap, though, and what had been a straightforward race became a nightmare.Hamilton remarked that it was the most dramatic race finish he could recall. It was intense and a true struggle. I handled the situation with a lot of composure. I believe it hadn’t really sunk in since it wasn’t until later that I started to realize what I had just experienced that I reacted with a delayed response.

Two laps before the finish line, Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas experienced a tyre delamination, and the same thing happened to the British driver on his final lap. Sparks shot from the floor of his vehicle as it careered over the track as his tyre disintegrated, but he wrestled it past the line five seconds ahead of Max Verstappen of Red Bull. With Max Verstappen down by about 30 seconds and closing quickly on his brand-new tyres, Hamilton had to choose between pushing and nursing his car to the finish line.

With their poorest finish since the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, Mercedes left Austria.Due to how their power unit operates at high altitude and the fact that Austria is one of Hamilton’s weaker races – by his own high standards – Austria has historically been a bit of a nightmare circuit for Mercedes over the years. Mercedes has been unbeatable at Silverstone throughout the years, winning all but two of the competitions held in Britain between 2013 and 2021. The last  Hamilton’s eight wins at the British track came in 2021 following a first-lap collision with championship challenger Max Verstappen. With the exception of Austria, Mercedes is anticipated to significantly improve in the British GP in an effort to maintain their upward momentum.

At the Austrian Grand Prix, Red Bull carried on their unstoppable streak by winning their ninth race in a row overall. This is the Home race for Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren and  Williams. This ensures there will be a lot to follow this weekend.
