“We always have to finish the races,” Max Verstappen wishes to emulate George Russell’s run of consistent performances

Max Verstappen and George Russell at the Spanish GP
The sole problem in Max Verstappen’s otherwise flawless season has been been reliability. It was a horrible start to the season for the Dutchman, who had to retire out of two out of the first three races. This had left him with a mountain to climb going into Imola as he was 46 points behind his nemesis, Charles Leclerc, who had put himself in a comfortable position.
The reigning world champion and Red Bull were able to get on top of their issues in Imola and have not looked back from there. It has been an utterly dominant display of speed ever since which has allowed them to take healthy leads in both the championships. But, in no way, the Milton Keynes outfit can afford to drop the ball at this point in time. Therefore, it’s important to stay focused and keep learning from their previous mistakes.
One driver who has not had a lot of support from his team but has still been able to stoke in impressive performances, is George Russell. The Brit has been the most consistent performers during the course of the season as he has secured 9 consecutive top 5 finishes. We are well aware of Mercedes’s struggle this season around and that is what makes this feat extra special.

Max Verstappen wants to learn from George Russell when it comes to consistency

Max Verstappen, ahead of the British GP, said that he would love to learn from George Russell, who has been a breath of fresh air in Mercedes’ dull season. The Dutchman said, “It will be hard for Russell to completely turn it around. But it shows that you’re still in a decent position if you don’t fail and always score.”
“I’ll try to do that from now on, too. We always have to finish the races, we can’t drop out.”
Talking about the British GP, Max said, “So we have to wait and see. And we also have to wait and see what the weather will do. That can also shake things up a bit.”
It’s pretty clear that George Russell is definitely one of the most talented drivers in F1 right now and does deserve a helping hand from Mercedes to get help him compete with the likes of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc on a regular basis.
