“We believe in both championships,” Mattia Binotto backs a ‘well equipped’ Ferrari to give Red Bull a run for their money
Mattia Binotto
Mattia Binotto has been under the scanner for a number of races for his debatable decision making and Ferrari’s inability to find the perfect balance between pace and reliability. After Red Bull’s six consecutive victories, the onus was on the Italian Giants to respond and that they did. Two consecutive races win in Britain and Austria has put them right back into the race.
While the win at Silverstone was a little fortunate after Max Verstappen ran over some debris to suffer a performance loss, handing over the initiative to Ferrari, the same cannot be said about Charles Leclerc’s win at the Red Bull Ring. It was an utterly dominant performance by the Monegasque driver as he overtook Max Verstappen thrice over the course of the race to seal his third win of the season.
Ferrari could have rounded off a perfect weekend, had Carlos Sainz not retired out of the race due to an engine issue. The silver lining was that both Ferraris looked better than Red Bull on race day which hasn’t been the case ever since Australia. There were a whole lot of positives for Mattia Binotto and both the drivers but still there’s work needed to be done if they want to take this fight down to the wire.

Mattia Binotto reckons Ferrari can topple Red Bull and win both the championships
Mattia Binotto has confirmed that they have the artillery in their arsenal to compete with Red Bull. He commented, “It is obvious that we still believe in both championships. This car has shown in all the races that it is competitive and looking ahead to all the stages that remain to be run, we have to believe in it.”
“Red Bull brought [upgrades] to Silverstone and the situation has not changed. It’s a fight of very few tenths, maybe just one tenth that divides us. Every time we bring something new it works, in Silverstone even the new engine bonnet helped us.”
“We had a disadvantage compared to Red Bull in terms of top speed, & it was mainly due to the effectiveness of their DRS. We intervened with a new rear wing. With it we closed the gap in terms of speed on the straights, they now only have a minimal advantage.”
Ferrari have definitely improved their straight line speed which had been a cause of concern in the last few races. The signs are positive for them but they can’t rest on their laurels if they want to pinch both the titles from Red Bull.
