The world of Formula 1 keeps on evolving season by season. The recent spurt in popularity for the sport has opened new and exciting avenues for it. The current season of Formula 1 itself views a prospect of record breaking 23 races on the calendar. It also has translated for the sport to enter new markets and race at new venues. This has been a step in right direction for the sport as it witnessed recording break attendance at Australia Grand Prix this year.

Entering new markets also means new sponsors being attracted towards Formula 1. Sponsorship deals play a major part in the sport as each team need more and more funs to develop a competitive package. One big name of the sport, Mercedes as a result of having numerous sponsors has enjoyed the success for many years. The sponsorship deals has allowed Mercedes to operate with larger budgets than the competitors and has enabled them to win 8 constructor titles.

Shanghai Grand Prix

The impact of Covid-19 on Formula 1 saw the sport not able to race at historic tracks. This resulted in Formula 1 opting to explore new options and signing new deals with tracks it had not visited in years. Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff reflected on this saying, “We’ve been in Shanghai before and couldn’t be there the last two years, but this is an important market for us.”

The German boss further added “I’d like to not only race in Shanghai, I’d also like to race in Beijing,” he said. “It’s a fantastic market for us as Mercedes, and I believe we should be embedded there with a strong footprint. We have three races in the US now and if we can do the same thing in China, that would be great.”

Formula 1 recently announced an addition of three races in the United States. The sport will visit Austin, Las Vegas and Miami in 2023 for its brand new season. This was announced as a consequence of having record breaking attendance at the Austin Grand Prix in 2021. The Head of the German racing stable hopes to witness such prospects in China as well as it remains a popular market for his team, Mercedes.
