“We can’t be satisfied with where we have been this season,” Lando Norris states as McLaren took a step back in performance in 2022

Lando Norris

Lando Norris came into Formula 1 in 2019 with McLaren and has been with the same team since then. It has been a good partnership so far but the team has not been able to give the drivers a car that’s capable of fighting at the front for 2 years straight now. While they were on the upward trajectory since 2019, the team took a step back in 2021 and the same thing happened this season.

The team cannot afford to backtrack and lose out on all the progress after the investment that they’ve made into the drivers and the facilities. While Lando Norris has reiterated that he has confidence in his team, he has stated that he is pushing for the team to improve in the coming seasons. Consistently is what has been lacking in the UK based outfit.

Lando Norris is signed to McLaren till 2025 and has been performing brilliantly so far for the team. As the team was working towards taking a step ahead for the 2022 season with the new regulations, the exact opposite occurred. With Daniel Ricciardo not performing as expected along with the car not getting them the desired results. It hasn’t done any good to the team’s image which doesn’t seem to be that good right now.

Here is what the Brit had to say about his 2022 season. ”If I think of before this season, did we achieve in 2022 what we should have done as McLaren? Honestly, it’s no,” the 23-year-old driver said to Sky Sports.

”If we want to do well and we want to be champions at some point and we want to win races, we can’t be satisfied with where we have been this season, but we can certainly be satisfied with the progress we’ve made,” Lando Norris continued .

It has been a tough season for the team and it’s riders. However, 2023 looks promising for McLaren as Lando Norris will be partnered with Aussie driver Oscar Piastri who will be replacing Daniel Ricciardo. The latter will be moving back to Red Bull as their 3rd driver for 2023. Things look promising for both the parties. If McLaren don’t deliver then they might lose out on their star driver a.k.a Lando.
