“We plan to run him,” AlphaTauri prepares to give Liam Lawson his first ever drive in F1 in Spa
Liam Lawson in AlphaTauri
Liam Lawson to make his F1 debut for AlphaTauri in the Belgium GP. The 20-year-old will be offered a drive in Free Practice 1 of the race on Friday. Liam Lawson is currently driving in Formula 2 and as per the new regulations each team will have to compulsorily give a young driver a chance to drive the F1 car. AlphaTauri has decided to conduct the proceedings as the summer break ends.
Liam Lawson is driving for the Carlin team, he is a member of the Red Bull junior team stating the reason for his direct connection with Red Bull’s sister team, AlphaTauri. Most of the drivers entering Red Bull racing come from its sister team and are trained to be great. Liam if gets a chance in AlphaTauri could hope to become like Max Verstappen or Daniel Ricciardo one day.
Liam has already won Toyota Racing Series and is proving to be a good deal in F2 as well, so Helmut Marko might look after the young driver. “We plan to run Liam Lawson in FP1 in Spa,” Franz Tost is quoted.

AlphaTauri’s 2023 lineup
Though Liam is proving to be a good deal and will perform his best in Spa, he still won’t get in the team as Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda already have set their lineup for the team. But with Gasly trying to exit after the 2023 season, Liam will surely push as hard as he could for that seat.
Lawson currently is currently 8th in the F2 standings with 88 points, though he won’t get a taste to win the title his main aim is to target a seat in Formula 1 and will look forward to it. As of now, Mercedes are the only one to give a young driver the chance to drive the F1 car.
