The Italian Grand Prix was not without excitement and drama before it ended on a dull note behind the Safety Car. Many were unhappy with this result, besides a few teams on the grid. Despite their mediocre result this weekend, Mercedes were quite happy with the FIA’s decision as they saw the rules being enforced correctly, contrary to the title decider last year.

The 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the title decider between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, but a questionable decision by the FIA helped Verstappen win the championship. F1 fans all over the world blew up over this decision and there were rigorous debates sparked among the community on various social media platforms.

The Safety Car at the end of the Italian Grand Prix reminded the Mercedes team of the title decider last year at Abu Dhabi and were happy to see that the rules were being followed by the FIA this time. Many believed Masi was biased towards the Red Bull last year and he was practically handed the win last year. The debate over the FIA’s decision in the Italian Grand Prix also sparked debates among the fans, with many believing the Safety Car could have ended earlier allowing for some action and excitement.

The Italian Grand Prix saw Daniel Ricciardo retiring due to mechanical failure with only 4 laps left in the race. The FIA took the decision to bring out a safety car and eventually the drivers ended up finishing the race behind it. This decision caused a lot of debate among the fans and the teams on the grid, but Mercedes were happy to see the rules being followed.

When asked about their thoughts, the team responded saying, “From a team’s point of view, what we really want is consistency. We want to see the rules applied in the same way each time, so everybody knows what’s going to happen. I think once you say that, you’ve got a choice, do you have a red flag and a restart of the race, and three laps of racing, or do you want the driver that’s probably winning on merit, who’s been in that position over 50 laps of the race to go on and win the race. They’re difficult calls.

The fans were unhappy with Mercedes’s performance this year so far but hope to see them perform better in the future and possibly secure a victory in the next few races to come.
