“We will have three more,” Toto Wolff makes BOLD prediction for 2024 F1 season

Toto Wolff believes that the complete potential of the 2022 F1 regulations would only be unlocked by 2024 after all the teams would have adopted and upgraded their cars enough. One of the main aims of the new regulations was to make sure that cars on the track would battle closely and would be able to follow each other up without struggling to catch the ‘clean air’. This would make the sport more competitive and fir for other teams, and also would make sure that there is not a single team dominating over others.

While this has been partially practice during the races, the only teams spotted on the podium have been Ferrari and Red Bull, and Mercedes have had their share, too, but only when the drivers of both dominating teams had hard luck during the race. Mercedes have mostly struggled during the start of the season, but recent improvements and upgrade packages saw them grabbing the podium places one after the other. Toto Wolff, team principal, is convinced that all the teams would slowly be able to catch-up similarly, and it could take time because it is not usually easy to adapt to new regulations.

Toto Wolff blames the budget cap for delay in upgrades

Toto Wolff said that the reason teams will have to wait another complete season to unlock their maximum potential is the budget cap, which limits the teams in upgrading their cars. “It’s too early to judge. I think the budget cap will narrow the group. In two years we will have five teams that are in a position to win and later we will have three more,” GPblog quoted him.

The Austrian thinks that McLaren would have caught up by 2024, including Mercedes, and there would be around 4 to 5 teams at once competing for the win and the championships, the way the sport is intended to be.
