“We will have to design suitable constructions,” Mario Isola keeps a close eye on the upcoming new engine regulations

Pirelli

Mario Isola, the employee under the director of Pirelli, initiated a talk to get Pirelli’s conviction to get in power with the 2026 engine regulations. Formula 1 last had engine regulations executed back in 2014, with the introduction of the V6 twin-turbo hybrid, this introduced an electric unit to the engine from all alone combustion unit. 2026 might see more electric usage with original gasoline parts as well, it could be much lighter and cheaper to attract more engine manufacturers. Nothing regarding has been entirely opened by Formula 1 as of now.

Mario Isola keeps his thoughts ahead by confirming Pirelli’s work towards the 2026 regulations. He compared things from 2014 and how things did change after hybrid technologies were introduced in the engine. He thinks the same might apply to the 26 regulation.

“It’s kind of what we saw in 2014, when we switched from the internal combustion engine to the hybrid. We will have more torque and we will have to design suitable constructions, ” said Mario Isola.

The engines will completely have a change in 2026, but we might also witness a change in tyre manufacturers. But Isola thinks Formula 1 will stick to their rubber and Pirelli will get ahead with its work.

“We have never made a secret of it. We are happy with Formula 1 and the period we have done. There are future prospects, so absolutely yes, from our side we want to stay, “ said Mario.

2022 saw a decent change in tyres and their compounds with the introduction of 18 inches compared to last season’s 13 inches. And with a few troubles regarding unconditional tyre temperature, we have seen less variation in punctures this season.
