Since the start of this season of F1, Lewis Hamilton has been underperforming in his car, but at the same time, George Russell has been of much competition to him. He has managed to finish better than Hamilton at every single race, minus 2. He has scored 3 podiums until now, and finished in the top 5 of every single race, and also the only driver to score points in every race. All in all, this has been a dream move for him from Willams, and the young Brit has been proving himself out on the track. But it isn’t the same for the seven time champion.

Hamilton was dominating the sport until last year, truly being one of the best, but the W13 is unable to give him the same pace and rank in the table. The team and he himself are disappointed with this. This all comes due to the porpoising of the car, which, in Lewis and Toto’s words, has become “undrivable.” While the entire team focussed on Hamilton and his issues, Russell has been out there, pouring his best into the car and performing much better; fans and people in the paddock have compared him to Lewis Hamilton, because they both are driving the same car but Russell has performed way better until now.

But former F1 racer David Coulthard feels otherwise, he thinks that this is not the right time and situation to compare the two drivers.

“I think George Russell is a future World Champion,” states Coulthard

Coulthard stated that he thinks Russell might as well be a future World Champion, but still, it is too early to compare both the drivers, and it would only be the right time when they have cars that are competitive enough.

“I think George is a future world champion, but we won’t truly know how he compares to Lewis until they have a winning car again because, right now, this is the best car that George has ever driven, and this is not the best car that Lewis has driven,” GPblog quoted him.

“It’s two different mindsets, two different phases of their careers. And that’s why right now you go, ‘oh, George is outperforming Lewis.”‘

It is no lie that George Russell had been driving a car that was so less competitive compared to the W13, and Hamilton has driven a dominating car almost his entire career in Mercedes, so this plays a major role in why Russell is better in this car, as of now.
