“We’ll see” : Toto Wolff reacts to a potential pit lane start for Lewis Hamilton following his crash at the Austrian GP Qualifying

In the qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix, Mercedes appeared to be headed in the right direction, but in Q3, everything went wrong. For starters, 7-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton abruptly left the track, and shortly after that, George Russell crashed the second W13 into the wall. Toto Wolff, the team principal, is not super harsh on his two drivers.
“We gave them ten weekends in a row with a car that was not up to scratch and now that we are starting to get equal and are at the front, it can happen that you just lose the car. I would rather have a fast car and a qualifying like this than not have the pace to be in the top four,” said the Austrian team boss following the conclusion of the Austrian Grand Prix qualifying race.

Toto Wolff surprisingly sees things coming together for Mercedes
“Yes, we are surprised. Spielberg was always a race where we struggled, even on our best days we weren’t doing very well, so we didn’t expect to make another step in terms of performance. But, slowly things are coming together,” mentioned Wolff on the speed of the Mercedes W13.
Russell ultimately set the fifth-fastest time, and Lewis Hamilton will start Saturday’s sprint race at the Red Bull Ring from P10. Whether the 37-year-old driver will ultimately begin from the grid is still up in the air. A launch from the pit lane is also an option if the damage is sufficiently serious. We’ll see,” said Wolff on this matter.
Russell, on the other hand, might advance one position. The stewards will receive a visit from Sergio Perez. Because Sergio Perez reportedly disregarded the track limits in Q2, he must see the stewards.
