Williams is a historical team in Formula 1, experiencing some major success historically. Now, as the team attempts to make their way back up the grid order, Mercedes is aiding their bid by supplying engines.

Williams’ deal with Mercedes has been extended, under the leadership of team principal James Vowles. The new agreement will see Mercedes-Benz continuing to supply engines beyond the 2026 F1 season when the new regulations kick in.

Mercedes is currently the engine supplier for four squads on the F1 grid. The Mercedes team itself, Williams, and rivals McLaren and Aston Martin are the customer teams for the Brackley-based manufacturer.

Today’s news highlights the strength of the Mercedes-Benz offering in F1 and importantly not only validates but reinforces our overall motorsport strategy. Since 2014, we have continued to build and develop our relationship with Williams. As the team continues to put the foundations in place to challenge at the front of the grid, we look forward to supporting them with our power unit supply.

Williams team principal James Vowles lays out plans for F1 future

Williams is known for their success in Formula 1, dominating at many occasions before the 2000s. Williams used to be a major figure in the sport with numerous drivers’ and constructors’ titles to their name, but have fallen down the grid to one of the backmarkers.

Williams’ latest major hire, James Vowles has brought about many changes. Most recently, the Briton laid out his plans to take Williams back up the field after making decent progress in their 2023 campaign, where both drivers scored points. Williams has gone from not scoring points to scoring at near enough most events or having the ability to score, so that’s a very different circumstance to where we were 12 months ago.

But, as I said, our aspiration is to keep moving up the grid, beyond where we are now. And that’s going to take a lot more effort from where we are.
James Vowles said, as reported by formula1.com

Williams has both their drivers continuing in the 2024 season, as Logan Sargeant and Alex Albon both managed to help Williams to seventh in the Constructors’ Standings. As the 2024 grid may converge, Williams may see more success coming their way.
