Former world champion Lewis Hamilton, currently executive producer of the film Apex, has played a significant role in its development and in ensuring authenticity in the script. The film features a fictional 11th team called Apex, which is prominent in the paddock and has taken over a pit garage, including a “prat perch” on the opposite pit wall. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has revealed Mercedes’ involvement in production.
Toto Wolff, speaking to the media, mentioned Mercedes’ early involvement in the film Apex. They sent starring actor Brad Pitt to a driving school in France to familiarize himself with various formula cars. Lewis Hamilton, the executive producer of the film, also wanted to ensure its realism and accuracy. Their collaboration aimed to make the movie as authentic as possible in portraying the world of Formula One racing.
“We’ve been involved [since] pretty early [on]. When we had the first discussions, we sent Brad to a driving school in France, going through the Formula cars from F4 all the way up and we tried to be helpful with the narrative. Lewis is an executive producer, so he wanted to make sure when the movie comes out, it’s as realistic as possible,” said Toto Wolff.
With the support of the Liberty Media organization, the film crew has installed their cameras on some of the cars to capture on-track action, adding to the realism of the movie. Hamilton and Mercedes’ involvement adds credibility and expertise to the project, enhancing the overall authenticity of the film.

Lewis Hamilton admits to feeling nervous as filming begins

Veteran Lewis Hamilton has been extensively involved in developing the Formula 1-based film. Despite his remarkable career achievements, Hamilton admitted to feeling nervous as the filming process commenced. When asked about the shooting start, he mentioned watching Brad Pitt practice a week or two before the Austrian Grand Prix.
Hamilton expressed his excitement to witness the project coming together and the filming process beginning. However, he also acknowledged the natural nerves that arise from working on something for an extended period and wanting it to be well-received. Their goal is to create a film that captures the essence of the sport and resonates with viewers, and Hamilton hopes to do justice to Formula 1 and the fans with the final product.
Lewis Hamilton also expressed his immense gratitude for the support the film is receiving from Liberty Media. He reflected on how the film’s production and collaboration might not have been possible in the past, particularly during the tenure of the previous management. He drew attention to the positive impact of previous F1 shows, such as Drive to Survive, and believes that the film Apex has the potential to surpass those achievements and elevate the sport even further. His comments indicate that the current Formula 1 organization is more open to embracing and promoting projects that contribute to expanding the reach and appeal of the sport.
