Eventually, Vinicius Jr was taken off the field but the damage was already done. The Spanish Prosecutor’s Office stated that it has opened an investigation into the incident with it having potential of becoming a hate crime.
Vinicius Jr was devastated by the actions that took place in the stadium. Here is what he wrote in his post on social media. “It was not the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition thinks it’s normal, the Federation does too and the opponents encourage it. I’m so sorry. The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi today belongs to racists,” he stated.
