“Wouldn’t mind contesting a race again!”: Sebastian Vettel leaves chances open for a return to F1 post retirement announcement
Sebastian Vettel
Sebastian Vettel‘s exceptional prowess om the Asian racetracks of Formula 1 is known to all his fans. With a record-breaking five victories in the Singapore Grand Prix, the German returned to the Marina Bay Street Circuit after 2019 with high hopes, and he did score 4 points with a P8 finish in his Aston Martin. Now, the paddocks are visiting the Suzuka International Racing Circuit for the Japanese Grand Prix, which Vettel has time and again claimed to be his favorite track of all time.
The 35-year-old, who announced his retirement from F1 at the end of this year’s Championship, has not yet taken up any new role despite huge offers from IndyCar, Formula E, and other leagues. And on top of that, Sebastian Vettel decided to tease the fans with a slight hint that he might be back in Formula 1 in the future–but only for a race in Japan.
The thought that this would be Sebastian Vettel‘s last race in Suzuka plagued all his followers, since he would be walking away from F1 racing at the end of this year. But the Aston Martin driver refused to admit the possibility that he is never going to return to the Japanese Grand Prix ever again. And he also said, if he is taken up as a replacement driver for one of the racers, he would be happy to fill the spot as that would mean he will be back to racing in Suzuka again.
Sebastian Vettel said he would consider returning to F1 only for driving at the Japanese Grand Prix
Considering how Sebastian Vettel has fared excellently in the Japanese Grand Prix in the past, with four race victories at this circuit to his name, the racer did admit it feels “a bit different” knowing that it would be the last time he visits Suzuka as a regular F1 racer. During the press conference, Vettel went on to say, “Of course I love driving and I’ve always felt very alive at this track. The passion has always been very alive.”
And then he dropped the bomb that he would “never say never” to the possibility of making a comeback to Japanese Grand Prix as a replacement driver. The German stated, “We’ll see what kind of car might come in the future. Maybe one of these guys feel a little sick in the future races here, I don’t know. I don’t wish it on them. But I wouldn’t mind contesting a race in Suzuka again at any time.”
Thus, the spirit and love of racing is still instilled deep inside Sebastian Vettel as he is all-set to leave Formula 1 for future venture at the end of 2022. Now, it remains to be seen if Vettel does get his wish to make an appearance in Japan as a replacement racer, once he retires.
