“You need time for this kind of intervention,” Mattia Binotto looks for a short term solution as reliability remains Ferrari’s biggest enemy
Mattia Binotto and Carlos Sainz
Mattia Binotto and Ferrari had a mixed weekend despite Charles Leclerc winning the Austrian GP. This was the first time that it felt like the Italian Giants held the edge over Red Bull in terms of race pace. We have seen Ferrari qualifying much better than Red Bull but they had not been able to match their counterparts on race day.
It was the other way around in Austria which saw Max Verstappen run ragged by the rampant duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. It should feel like a golden opportunity slipping through their hands, especially after Sergio Perez had to retire out of the race following a collision with George Russell on the first lap of the race. The Mexican had a hole in his sidepod forcing him out of the race.
This meant the ball was in Ferrari’s court, giving them an opportunity to close the gap on Red Bull in the constructor’s championship. It looked like an easy 1-2 for Ferrari in Red Bull’s backyard, which could have acted as a revenge for what happened in Imola, before Carlos Sainz’s engine blew out and the car was on fire within a matter of a couple of minutes.

Mattia Binotto reveals Ferrari’s plans for the short term after yet another reliability issue in Austria
This again has raised questions on Ferrari’s capability to get on top of the reliability issues. Mattia Binotto responded to all these questions saying, “We have a very good performing engine. That gives me hope for the future when we have found a way to make it reliable as well.”
“These are problems that worry us for the coming races, not in the long term. I am convinced that we can solve it as a team. For this kind of intervention you need time: you need to design, produce and homologate new components for reliability.“
“A few weeks are not enough. In the short term we will try to manage it in terms of kilometres,” reported gpblog.
If Ferrari have to compete with Red Bull, they will have to seize every opportunity coming their way and therfore, Mattia Binotto needs to helps out their drivers by giving them a fast car with a reliable engine.
