Yuki Tsunoda getting certified as a Sagamihara City Hometown Athlete
Yuki Tsunoda is currently the only Japanese driver in Formula 1. Yuki is a Honda prodigy who got the call-up to join Alpha Tauri in 2021. Tsunoda made an impressive points-scoring debut in F1. The Japanese driver has managed to keep his seat in the Italian team for 2023. This year, Tsunoda will be teammates with Nyck de Vries. Yuki has garnered a great fan following in his country and gained recognition.
Accordingly, Yuki Tsunoda was recently given the honor of becoming the first certified athlete in his hometown. Tsunoda comes from the city of Sagamihara, with a population of just over 720,000 people. The city certified Yuki as the first Sagamihara City Hometown Athlete in a short ceremony attended by a significant number of fans. A great gesture by Sagamihara and a symbol of Tsunoda’s success in motorsport.
Yuki Tsunoda tweeted his gratitude for this certification. Tsunoda exclaimed, “I was certified as the first Sagamihara City Hometown Athlete!” Consequently, Yuki was thankful for being recognized as the first successful athlete in his hometown and pledged to continue his contribution to sports. He continued, “I am very honored and will do my best to continue contributing.”

Japanese F1 fans are one of the most passionate in F1. They will certainly be looking for Yuki to step up his game this year against Nyck de Vries.
Any athlete will be honored by receiving such recognition from their hometown and Yuki Tsunoda is no different. Yuki will be looking forward to dealing with this pressure in the upcoming F1 season as all of Japan rallies behind him. Fan’s love for Yuki was also seen at the Honda Racing Thanks Day 2022. Tsunoda has certainly felt the love and passion of his fans and Sagamihara City. Yuki has been recognized as a hero of his town and someone who will be looked up to by younger generations.
Hence, Yuki Tsunoda will be having pressure on his shoulders. Yuki will be dealing with the promising Nyck de Vries at Alpha Tauri. Thus, it is up to Tsunoda to ensure that he outperforms the Dutchman and establishes himself as the team leader early on in the season.
