Yuki Tsunoda made his Formula 1 debut in 2021 with Redbull Racing’s sister team Alpha Tauri. With this, he also became the first Japanese F1 driver since Kamui Kobayashi used to race in the sport. The Japanese driver was paired with Frenchman Pierre Gasly with whom he has seemed to develop a pretty intricate teammate relationship.

During his early days in F1, there were a number of instances where the young racer went on a swearing spree. This meant his radio messages used to be bleeped over the international broadcast of the session. The 22 year old driver had somewhat earned a reputation for these outbursts which the fans seemed to like.

F1 fans had a good laugh over Yuki Tsunoda’s outbursts but Redbull Advisor Helmut Marko wasn’t in the mood to do so. Marko further went to criticise the driver for the way he described the car. He stated that Yuki must be more descriptive and pass on actual information. This would help the engineers analyse what’s wrong and make the required changes.

“He doesn’t care about anything. He’s very emotional. For a Japanese, it’s more of an exception. He learned how to swear in English from Carlin,” Marko said about Yuki Tsunoda. “But if you swear and curse in the middle of a corner, that’s not good. We explained that to him that he has to stop it. In addition, the engineer can’t do anything with feedback like ‘bloody f*cking car’. We have to know what exactly is the car doing. He has to analyse that and then say it factually,” he continued..

This is currently Yuki Tsunoda’s 2nd season in Formula 1. The Japanese rider’s 2023 contract hasn’t officially been announced by the team so we will have to wait and see how it all progresses. Unofficially both Tsunoda and Gasly seem to have retained their seats for another season.
