Max Verstappen is the current championship leader by a huge margin. The two-time world champion leads by 99 points to second-placed Sergio Perez. The Dutch driver has scored enough points to lead the Constructors’ title as well single-handedly. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown was convinced that this streak of success would end.

Brown believed that as the grid bunches up throughout this season with rivals inching closer to Red Bull, Verstappen will soon face some stiff competition. The McLaren boss hoped to have his team battling with the Dutchman for the win. However, the 51-year-old admitted that many teams could be in the mix. He told SkySports, “Someone will eventually catch Max hopefully it will be us. Chances are it will be a handful of people.”

The McLaren CEO praised Max Verstappen for his impressive results in the past few seasons. Zak Brown was glad to see a world champion performing at his finest at the pinnacle of motorsport. He continued, “But I mean he’s doing an unbelievable job. It’s great to see world champions at the top of the game. So you have to admire what he’s doing.”

The Formula 1 grid has closed up this season except for Max Verstappen. Mercedes, Aston Marton, Ferrari, and now McLaren have all been the second fastest team in at least one race this year. Brown was happy that teams and drivers had been closely matched in recent rounds despite Verstappen’s dominance. He stated, “I think it’s a great time for Formula 1.”

As such, Brown believes that sooner or later, Max Verstappen will lose out to rivals on the grid. Even Sergio Perez has felt the heat from his competitors despite driving the fastest car on the grid. McLaren’s Lando Norris briefly led the British GP this season before losing the lead to the two-time world champion. Norris’ father, Adam, claimed that it would be the Briton who challenges Verstappen.

Thus, Zak Brown was adamant that rivals would eventually match Max Verstappen. The two-time world champion has won eight of the ten races so far. Although, the Dutchman could face serious competition in the latter half of the season. The rest of the grid brings in some major upgrades in hopes of challenging the Milton Keynes-based team.
