The McLaren Formula 1 team has witnessed quite a few ups and downs with its driver pairings in recent years. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo did not work out, but since the arrival of Oscar Piastri in place of Ricciardo, the team believes that they have hit a major jackpot.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri performed brilliantly during the recent 2023 F1 season and amassed immense applause for their exploits. The McLaren CEO, Zak Brown, firmly believes in his current driver line-up and thus, has recently admitted that he has the strongest driver pairing on the modern F1 grid.
While shedding light on the same, he recently wrote in an open letter;
I believe we have the strongest driver pairing on the Formula 1 grid. Many agree that Oscar has been a revelation in his rookie campaign, and he has already shown he is able to fight at the front with the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Looking at the reaction of the 52-year-old, it is quite clear that he is on cloud 9 with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri as his McLaren drivers. Moreover, he has even gone on to claim that his drivers have the caliber to fight at the front against the lights of world champion drivers, Hamilton and Verstappen.
McLaren needs to present Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri with a championship-worthy car
While Zak Brown has left no stone unturned in applauding Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, the onus is now on his team to provide the two prolific drivers with a championship-worthy car. It has been over a decade since a McLaren driver was seen lifting the coveted F1 world championship.
During the 2023 F1 season, McLaren made a tremendous recovery to end their campaign in a respectable fourth place. Norris and Piastri put the MCL60 through the absolute wringer after the mid-season break and it was because of their efforts that the team was able to get the jump on Aston Martin.
