Lando Norris is one of the most exciting talents on the current Formula 1 grid. The British driver is often reckoned to be a future world champion. The 23-year-old has been open to the idea of partnering with Max Verstappen at Red Bull. The Milton Keynes-based team has often expressed its interest in the Briton. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown insists that Norris is happy at Woking.
Brown highlighted that Lando Norris had been asked by the media about being teammates with Verstappen. The McLaren boss emphasized that the Briton’s answer had no relevance in the present situation despite the recent rumors on the grid. Zak Brown claimed that Norris is happy to be at McLaren. He said, as reported by Express.co.uk, “So, I think everyone has picked up a question he has answered and stirred it a little bit and that’s Formula 1. But that’s alright. He’s in a good place.”
Brown believed that Max Verstappen and Lando Norris shared a good relationship. Moreover, the McLaren CEO reckoned that all drivers would give a similar reply if they were asked about being teammates with world champions. The 51-year-old stated, “I think they’re good buddies. I think if you ask any racing driver if they want to race another competitor. I think you’ll always get an answer of ‘Oh, I’d love to be Lewis’ team-mate, or Max’s team-mate or Fernando’s team-mate.”
Zak Brown open to signing Max Verstappen in the future
Zak Brown was asked if he would like to sign the two-time world champion to form this rumored pairing at the Woking-based team. The 51-year-old reckoned that any team would be willing to sign talented drivers such as Max Verstappen provided there was a seat available on the team. However, Brown made it clear that McLaren is happy with its current pairing.
The British squad recently extended the contract of Oscar Piastri as part of a multi-year deal with Lando Norris also staying at Woking for the long term. The 51-year-old concluded, “I think any time you have a driver of that caliber if there’s an open seat. Of course. But we’re very happy with our two racing drivers.” As such, it might be a long time before McLaren can even consider the possibility of signing Max Verstappen.

The McLaren boss remains adamant that Lando Norris is satisfied with the British team. Despite a rough start to the 2023 F1 season, the Woking-based team has bounced back in recent races. With Norris taking a podium at the Singapore GP as well. As such, it might take some time before the 23-year-old considers to leave the iconic British outfit.
