Formula 1 has continued to bring about multiple changes to the F1 sprint format after introducing it in 2021. The sprint races are a great way for the trailing drivers to have a chance at scoring some points during a race weekend. However, for the championship leader Max Verstappen, sprint races are not very enticing as he has Lando Norris breathing down his neck for the lead.
Max Verstappen is currently just 52 points ahead of in-form Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship. Norris has continued to close the gap to Verstappen amidst the latter’s downfall in performance. Moreover, with the sprint races, the Briton would have furthermore chances to score massive points over the six remaining race weekends.
Hence, Nico Rosberg claimed that Max Verstappen would not be happy with the sprint races on the F1 calendar. The sprint win granting eight points to the winner would be a massive boost for a driver such close to the championship win. Rosberg believed that this situation would put a lot of pressure on Verstapen’s shoulders.
Finishing second in all the remaining races ‘impossible’ for Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen now has to finish second or better in all the remaining races and he could seal his championship win. However, Nico Rosberg highlighted that scoring such results was nearly impossible for Verstappen. Additionally, German-Finnish believed that Lando Norris would also have to help Oscar Piastri improve his position in the pecking order.
Red Bull’s dwindling pace has put forth multiple challenges for Max Verstappen in his championship ambitions. However, a great last-effort help from Daniel Ricciardo has been of great help to the Dutchman. The end-of-the-season battle would be extremely interesting and exciting due to the cut-throat competition between the top two.
