Oscar Piastri could ditch McLaren if the team continues to rally behind Lando Norris

McLaren arguably has one of the most promising driver pairings with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The two drivers are at the top of their game. However, Norris’ failed title bid in 2024 could create cracks within the Woking-based squad.
The British team put its full force behind Lando Norris to defeat Max Verstappen for the world championship. This included the implementation of team orders and even forced Piastri to give away the Brazilian GP Sprint victory.
The Woking-based squad has shifted its focus to the Constructors’ title for the final three races. However, it is clear that McLaren will need to recalibrate the dynamics within the team to ensure Oscar Piastri doesn’t feel alienated for next season.
Any team would be eager to have Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri is one of the most exciting talents on the F1 grid. The Australian driver made headlines even before he made his debut over the Alpine contract saga. The 23-year-old has impressed the entire paddock during his two seasons alongside Lando Norris.
If McLaren fails to give sufficient attention to Piastri next season, he could start looking elsewhere. A team like Red Bull would welcome the 23-year-old with open arms. Moreover, even other teams could be willing to have Oscar Piastri on board.
The Woking-based squad will likely provide equal treatment to Norris and Piastri at the start of 2025. Then, things would depend on the Australian to prove that he can outperform his more experienced teammate from the get-go. Moreover, the 23-year-old would not be happy to sacrifice his results for Lando Norris if the Briton continues to make mistakes like this season.
So far, Piastri has shown that he is happy to be with McLaren and Norris. However, things can change quickly in Formula 1. If something goes wrong, fans could see rumors emerge within a span of a few weeks. As such, the British team would be aware that it needs to ensure Oscar Piastri does not think about joining a rival team for the foreseeable future.
