Max Verstappen has already been crowned the 2024 drivers’ world champion. However, despite this, his hunger for racing had not gone away as he divebombed Oscar Piastri during the chaotic Abu Dhabi GP race start. This ruined the McLaren driver’s race, who expressed his frustration over the radio after being spun around by Verstappen.
McLaren was considered the favorite to win the constructors’ title after locking out the front row in qualifying yesterday. Their drivers were happy with the qualifying result and insisted that they wanted to win the championship in style against Ferrari. However, Max Verstappen appeared as a spanner in the works as a defacto McLaren 1-2 was broken apart by his lunge heading into turn one.
On the other hand, Oscar Piastri was unhappy with the reigning champion’s optimistic move during the heated race start. As a consequence, he took a dig at his world championship status over the radio.
Yep. Move of a world champion, that one.

For the incident between Piastri and Verstappen, the latter was smacked with a 10-second penalty. However, the Aussie did not leave the scene unscathed as he was also penalized with a 10-second penalty for having a collision with Franco Colapinto on the opening lap.

On the other hand, Verstappen is often known for making aggressive moves on track, but his attempt to overtake the 23-year-old was a bit too audacious. While the Red Bull camp largely admitted this, the 27-year-old reckoned the whole ordeal to be not much more than a racing incident.

Subsequently, Verstappen asserted that he was unlucky in the clash as he was over the kerbs.
I mean, I was super unlucky, I was all the way up the inside.

However, the stewards did not agree with his statements and claimed him to be guilty. This did not leave Verstappen quite happy with the stewards’ verdict as he took a jibe at the officials for penalizing him.
Could we ask for 20 seconds? Stupid idiots.

Despite McLaren’s concerns, Lando Norris has been controlling the race out in front and doing enough to bring the championship back to Woking. However, the race is yet to finish, and Abu Dhabi is known to produce miracles even in the final few laps, so fans would remain glued to their screens until the chequered flag falls on the track.
