In Short
  • Oscar Piastri aims to improve his performance in the 2026 season after losing the 2025 driver's title to Lando Norris.
  • He plans to apply lessons learned from his previous season and draw motivation from Max Verstappen's comeback.
  • Piastri believes Formula 1 has not lost its identity despite new regulations, but acknowledges adjustments are necessary for fans and drivers.

Oscar Piastri lost out on the 2025 driver’s title to Lando Norris despite leading in the pecking order for a majority of the season. The Aussie fumbled in performances when it mattered the most, with Norris capitalizing on his errors. Moreover, Max Verstappen clinched the runner-up spot from Piastri, as his failures caused him to finish in P3 ultimately.

As such, Oscar Piastri now hopes to achieve much better and consistent results over the upcoming season and apply all his lessons from the previous year in the right place. The 24-year-old certainly took in many learnings from the disappointing title defeat in the 2025 season. However, Piastri was still in his third full-year in Formula 1, as he has a brighter career ahead of him.

Speaking on learnings from the 2025 F1 title defeat, Oscar Piastri asserted that he learnt many lessons from it. Though it was necessary to keep an eye out for others, he had a lot to learn himself as well. Moreover, Piastri gathered motivation from Max Verstappen and Red Bull, who closed down on a 104-point deficit down to just two points by the end of the season.

I’ve got plenty of lessons I can take from my own campaign, but it is important to keep an eye on others as well, but there was plenty [to learn] myself. Even in the second half of the season, with Max and Red Bull coming back from such a big deficit, there are definitely some lessons to learn from that as well.

Oscar Piastri said, as reported by RacingNews365.

Ultimately, Oscar Piastri accepts that there was more to learn from his own season, rather than focusing on his rivals. The Aussie lost to a much seasoned driver in Lando Norris, as the latter has been racing for McLaren for quite some time now. Piastri asserted that he wanted to improve his performance for the 2026 season and start the new regulations on the right note.

But I think there was more than enough to learn from my own season and try to improve for this year.

Oscar Piastri boldly claimed that Formula 1 was not losing its identity at all following the introduction of the new regulations. The Aussie accepted that the fans and drivers had to get used to many things. But, many of the initial fear that the teams had was alleviated following the private testing sessions in Barcelona.

I don’t think it’s lost its identity at all, I think there are going to be some things to get used to. But in terms of some of the fears that maybe we had before we got on track, I think a significant majority of those have been alleviated now. That’s not to say that there aren’t things that could be improved still. But in terms of lift and coast and stuff like that, we were all doing it before anyway – just for different reasons most likely.

Oscar Piastri noted.
