McLaren has come up with the most dominant performance in the 2025 season, courtesy of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Since the beginning of the year, the team had refused to meddle between the two drivers with Papaya Rules. However, Woking interfered with some team orders and caused some problems between the two. Now, Piastri reveals the reason when there is no No. 1 driver in the team, especially not Norris.

Lando Norris had made a daring move against Oscar Piastri in Singapore that caused the latter to lose one position on track. As such, Norris then accepted that he would face consequences for the rest of the season in 2025. Moreover, neither of the drivers is completely dominant against the rivals and is not favored by the team just yet. However, people speculated that the Briton was their priority, which the team clearly denied.

Now, Oscar Piastri pondered over the reasons why there was no clear No. 1 driver at McLaren despite the two performing at the pinnacle of their career. Both drivers are giving each other a bang for their buck and not making either’s life easier on track. As such, Piastri reckoned that this might be the reason behind no primary driver at Woking.

Oscar Piastri insisted that he and Lando Norris were incredibly tight on track in terms of performance. He revealed that both drivers wanted a fair shot at fighting for the championship as they both deserved to win. Piastri reckoned that the two were far too close in the title standings for the team to favor one over the other, especially at this point in the season.

We’re still so incredibly tight, We’ve both said we wanted an opportunity to try and fight for the championship because we deserve it. I think it’s far too close to start picking one over the other.

Oscar Piastri claims Qualifying pace ‘still good’ compared to race pace

Despite the difficulties in Texas, Oscar Piastri still managed to snag a decent Qualifying position in the mediocre pace of the McLaren challenger. As such, Piastri is glad that the car isn’t completely lost in terms of competitiveness. The Aussie recalled how it was difficult to get into a rhythm all throughout the weekend and he failed to achieve a positive finish in the main race.

Oscar Piastri asserted that the COTA circuit was different as compared to the team’s previous outings, as he still had a chance to achieve great results. Piastri reckoned that a positive race pace might have helped him excel in Texas, but that wasn;t the case either. Now, the 24-year-old wants to work on these aspects, but he believes that his Qualifying performance is still good which is a big positive.

It was difficult to get into a rhythm at all and that’s been the big difference compared to other circuits that we’ve been to more recently, I think that today race pace could have saved you, but I didn’t really have that either, It’s something I want to work on obviously, but I think qualifying still generally has been consistently good.

Oscar Piastri noted

Regardless of the recent woes, Oscar Piastri is still leading the driver’s title by a 16-point lead to Lando Norris. Now, the Aussie just needs to keep up with the consistency for the five remaining races this year. The year will definitely be extremely enticing as multiple drivers are looking promising of a battle fight by the end.
