Oscar Piastri has remained one of the more underwhelming drivers in terms of performance in recent races. Ever since the summer break, Piastri hasn’t been able to keep up with the winning momentum and has lost the title lead to Lando Norris. Even the Las Vegas GP was no surprise for the Aussie as he finished in just P4. Now, the 24-year-old sends a clear message about what he needs to do for the two remaining races this year.
As the championship currently stands, Oscar Piastri cannot simply win all the races and be crowned the 2025 title winner. Lando Norris must suffer from an extremely poor race or a DNF if Piastri wants a realistic shot at the championship. Piastri accepted the situation, and he is aware of what he has to do in order to emerge victorious in his maiden championship fight.
Oscar Piastri highlighted that he was aware that he could not simply win the two remaining races and be crowned the champion. However, what he could do is put himself in the best position if something untoward happens in Norris’ championship ambitions. As such, for Piastri’s own pride and ego, he had to win the upcoming two races, as that was all he could do to remain in the championship contention.
I think so, but it’s obviously now in the position where I can’t just win it by winning races, but what I can do is put myself in the best position to capitalise on if something does happen. So, for my own pride, ego and opportunities, I want to win the next two races, but that’s all I can do.
Oscar Piastri said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Oscar Piastri isn’t hoping on a miracle happening to him this late in the 2025 season. He reckoned that if things went his way, then he would be glad to have that happen. However, if things didn’t go his way, then that was just life, and he would accept that situation as well. Regardless of the end results, he just wanted to try his best to have a good couple of weekends this year.
And if things go my way, things go my way, and if they don’t, then it is what it is — and I’ll try my best to have a good couple of last weekends.

Oscar Piastri reveals he needs “things out of my control” to go his way
Certainly, it would be next to impossible for Oscar Piastri to close down on the massive points gap to Lando Norris in just two races. Though the upcoming weekend is a sprint weekend, and would allow Piastri to score more points than usual. Still, the Aussie will need to absolutely dominate the upcoming races and hope for atleast a Lando Norris DNF.

Oscar Piastri accepted that these things were out of his control and he couldn’t do much about them even if he wanted to. The Aussie had an uncertain answer to whether the pressure was off his shoulders or not.
Piastri accepted that his winning the title was more like an outside chance now, and hence, in some ways, he had some pressure off himself. Regardless, his focus would be on maximizing results and winning races to end his season on the best possible note.
Yes and no, It is an outside chance now. Again, like I said, I need things kind of outside of my control to also happen. So, in some ways, yes, but it doesn’t change the desire to want to do my best and try and win, and that’s what I’ll be focused on.
Oscar Piastri noted.
The 2025 season has been extremely exciting so far. And it will be more so in the final two races. It seems that Oscar Piastri’s prayers have been heard as both McLaren cars were disqualified from the Las Vegas GP. The Aussie is now just 24 points shy of the championship lead and can close it down in the upcoming two races.
