Oscar Piastri has suffered from a woeful performance in the final stages of the 2025 season and lost the title lead to Lando Norris. The Aussie played the team game on multiple occasions, but it has now come to bite him. Now, with just two races to go this year and Piastri being just 24 points shy of the championship lead, he has clearly denied playing the second fiddle to Norris in his title ambitions.
Since the beginning of the 2025 season, McLaren had refused to intervene between the two drivers with team orders. However, they backtracked on their comments and asked Oscar Piastri to give up the position to Lando Norris at the Italian GP. This caused a lot of backlash towards the team, and Piastri lost all momentum a couple of races later.
Now, with the championship fight seemingly at its peak, Oscar Piastri has issued his game plan for the two remaining races this year. Piastri revealed that he had a brief discussion with the entire team on playing second fiddle to Lando Norris for the remaining races this year. He declared that it was a clear no when being asked to play the team game in the coming races.
Oscar Piastri continued that he was equal on points to Max Verstappen and had a decent chance at winning his first driver’s title. If things went his way during the races, he wouldn’t give up the position to Lando Norris or help him. The Aussie clarified that this was how the team was going to play in the remaining two races and not interfere between the two anymore.
We’ve had a very brief discussion and the answer is no, I’m still equal on points with Max and got a decent shot of still winning it if things go my way. That’s how we play it.
Oscar Piastri said, as reported by RacingNews365.
Oscar Piastri labels his Las Vegas GP DSQ as ‘painful ending’
McLaren suffered from a double disqualification at the Las Vegas GP due to excessive plank wear. This meant that Lando Norris, who was 30 points ahead of Piastri after the race, is now just 24 points in lead. Though it seems positive for Oscar Piastri, he believes that it isn’t the best situation to be in, and he is in a net negative overall.

Oscar Piastri claimed that a double disqualification was not a good thing despite his deficit being reduced to 24 points. Though he was now six points closer to Lando Norris, Max Verstappen was also introduced in the title fight. As such, he was ultimately on the losing end and had a painful ending to his outing in Sin City.
Ultimately, it’s never a good thing, Having the result we had, yes, it prevents me from losing those six points to Lando. It also brings Max much closer into the fight. Overall, it’s still a net negative. Obviously, just a pretty difficult weekend for the team and a painful ending.
Oscar Piastri noted.
The 2025 season has been extremely exciting up until this point. Now, the coming two races ensure even more excitement and intensity. Lando Norris’ life is just a tad bit easier in the title fight as he still has a 24-point lead over his rivals. A podium finish for Norris in the upcoming races is good enough to help him seal his maiden championship win.
