In light of his performances, Piastri feels that he is still in the fight for the driver’s championship this season. The Australian currently trails the leader, Max Verstappen, by 91 points after 17 races.

I’m not out of the running for the Drivers’ Championship, but I think now on average, I need to score, like, it’s over 10 points more per weekend than Max, I think. So, I can try and go out and win every race, but it’s now at the point where I need other things to start happening to win that.
Oscar Piastri spoke to DAZN Spain

The 23-year-old’s consistent form has greatly helped the Papayas in claiming the lead in the coveted constructors’ championship. He will now need to maintain his form in order to deliver greater results in the upcoming races.

Oscar Piastri open to helping Lando Norris in the drivers’ championship

Lando is still ahead in the championship and just being honest has a more realistic chance of winning the championship. If I am in a position to still win races, that’s what I want to do. But naturally if there are times I can help out for Lando’s championship bid, then I’ll be happy to help if I can.

Piastri has taken a mature step in weighing the practicality of Lando Norris‘ chances of winning the title this season. The 23-year-old has selflessly agreed to help his teammate if and when the situation requires it of him.

Norris trails Verstappen by 59 points in the title race, which appears a lot more achievable than Piastri’s current odds. Therefore, the chances of the Woking-based team now lie in the hands of the dynamic duo, who will seek to make the most out of the races from here on.
