Oscar Piastri has quickly emerged as the favorite to win the drivers’ title in 2025 due to his flawless performances. McLaren’s dominant pace this year has also contributed to Piastri’s success. While the Papaya Squad is enjoying its newfound winning pace, Max Verstappen and Red Bull are having their own struggles. The rumors of Verstappen considering exiting Milton Keynes and joining Mercedes in 2026 continue growing. However, the Australian asserts that he doesn’t care about the activities at Red Bull camp as he focuses on his champion ambitions.

Oscar Piastri has managed to keep his teammate Lando Norris at bay, owing to his error-free performance on the grid. Still, Norris is only eight points adrift of the championship lead to his Aussie counterpart. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen is way off in the distance, with a difference of 69 points to the lead. Verstappen has already given up on his title chances this year as Piastri now remains carefree of a late-season battle against the reigning world champion.

Max Verstappen’s rumors of joining Mercedes in 2026 continue even though Red Bull has made some significant changes in its leadership after axing Christian Horner from the squad. Even if Verstappen were to join Brackley, Oscar Piastri would be unfazed by this change. Piastri reckoned that the 27-year-old wouldn’t be easy to write off in terms of the championship battle at the German carmaker.

Oscar Piastri pointed out that Verstappen wouldn’t be distracted in his championship ambitions by the switch in teams in 2026. While the Dutchman might find it hard to manage racing under a completely new squad at Brackley, he would still be the same dominating force on the grid in terms of performance. Moreover, Piastri reassured that the four-time champion and his decisions on the grid did not bother him much in his own battle for the drivers’ title.

I don’t think that next year worries me that much — obviously it’s something he must manage, but I don’t think it will necessarily distract him, and as far as the championship doesn’t bother me much about what Max is doing or how many points he has behind him.

Oscar Piastri labels Max Verstappen a ‘threat’ at every race

Max Verstappen is seemingly unable to contend for victories during races, even though he has the pace to achieve a pole position for Sunday. Red Bull’s performance seems to degrade with every passing race, as they are unable to nail the challenger development. Regardless, Oscar Piastri doesn’t want to write off the Dutchman even in this season as he hopes to recover from the massive slump.

Piastri didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that Max Verstappen would remain a looming threat on almost every, if not every, race weekend for the rest of the 2025 season. As such, the 24-year-old doesn’t want to rule out Verstappen’s threat during races. The Australian reassured that he entered every race weekend looking to give it his best, no matter the pace present in the challenger.

I think it’s going to be a threat every weekend, or most weekends, and that’s why you can’t rule it out. We don’t know if the car has the right pace or not, but in the end I face every weekend trying to do the best I can, and I worry about that.

The 2025 season has been very exciting and interesting due to multiple teams and drivers contending for the race wins. McLaren seems to have run off in the distance in the constructors’ championship this year. However, the drivers’ title is still all to play for as Verstappen hopes to bridge the gap in points to the front of the pack.
