The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton‘s upcoming move to 2025 Ferrari has raised questions about Mercedes’ chances of getting back to the top. A key factor in the team’s performance since the start of the hybrid era in 2014 has been Hamilton as the 39-year-old has won 82 races with the team, accounting for 65.6% of Mercedes’ total wins.

As Hamilton is no longer part of the team’s projects, Mercedes is expected to give George Russell preference for the 2024 season. Reigning world champion Max Verstappen even predicted that Hamilton is going to have an awkward season with Toto Wolff‘s team as he would be excluded from many team meetings.

Amidst these rumors, Sky Sports F1 precentor Simon Lazenby has come forth and has explained to Mercedes how much they owe Hamilton. He urged the team to give the respect the champion driver deserves as he brought in all the glory the team has now with his hard work and dedication over the years.

I think the thing is with Lewis, it's an exceptional case, isn't it? At the end of the day, it's Lewis. And Lewis has brought everything to Mercedes. Therefore, they kind of do owe him a little bit. I think they owe him everything really. And they probably owe him the respect that he deserves to treat him like the great champion that he is for the time that he has remaining at Mercedes.

I never thought that at this point in my life, I would have a hunger, like I  do right now. We have gone through a whole heap together so to finish on a high note, it would be the greatest honour to be able to help them to get back to the top.
Lewis Hamilton said.

Mercedes has been a significant part of his life since he was 13, and leaving has been a difficult decision. He appreciates everyone’s effort and hard work, and he is proud of the accomplishments they have made together. Their collaboration has been the most successful Driver-Team partnership in Formula One history, winning titles and shattering records.
