After Red Bulls’ dominance in 2023, several people deemed the 2024 F1 season to be like a walk in the park for them. However, to their surprise, McLaren and Ferrari have recently come out as real contenders for the world championship.
The Woking-based team triumphed at the Miami Grand Prix and after Carlos Sainz‘s Melbourne victory, Ferrari once again got the better of Max Verstappen and co. at last week’s Monaco event. Moreover, Red Bull was only able to amass a mere eight points.
Seeing the performance levels of the McLaren and Ferrari, renowned F1 pundit/reporter, Martin Brundle has deemed the 2024 title fight as game-on!
Ferrari and McLaren are on a fine run, both teams and driver pairings looking very cohesive, focused, and well structured. This means that Red Bull are very much looking in their rear mirrors in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships and it appears to be game on with so many races to come.Martin Brundle said in a conversation with De Telegraff
The ongoing campaign is only eight rounds down and Red Bull has already lost three Grand Prix. During the course of the 2023 campaign, the Milton-Keynes-based team lost out on only one event, the Singapore Grand Prix.
Internal conflict at Red Bull has caused the outfit’s 2024 slump
After Monaco, Ferrari is only 24 points behind Red Bull in the Constructors Championship. Moreover, McLaren is also catching up at the rate of knots. Amidst all this, Brundle further believes that this year’s internal conflicts on the team are to blame for Red Bull’s performance slump.
In Monaco, Verstappen managed a sixth-place finish whereas, Sergio Perez came away with a DNF!
I personally have no doubt that the internal events at Red Bull have detracted from their recent performances, and they’ll be desperately keen to resume normal service in Montreal next time out.Martin Brundle said in the same interview
While things have been bumpy for the Red Bull F1 team, the only thing that’s going for them is that they are still leading both the championships. However, if they are to keep hold of their current position, they will need to start putting in mighty performances from Canada onwards. McLaren and Ferrari are in no mood to put their foot off the throttle in the upcoming events.
