The 2024 season was filled with surprises for McLaren. The team began the campaign as a midfield contender and then went on to dethrone Red Bull. This aided Lando Norris to end up as the runner-up. In light of this, F1 pundit Lawrence Baretto backed the Brit for this year’s driver’s title
Max Verstappen saved Red Bull’s 2024 season by winning the driver’s title. After the initial five rounds, Red Bull was the third-fastest car on average and the Dutchman had to mount a stern title defense. Lando Norris took up the antagonist role in Verstappen’s fourth title and missed out on winning the championship due to his mistakes and McLaren‘s hesitancy.
Witnessing his silly mistakes and often bottling massive chances, experts reckoned him to not be a championship-caliber driver. However, with some lessons being learned from his failed championship charge, some expressed faith in his abilities. This included Lawrence Barretto, who envisions the British driver to win his maiden title in 2025.
On the contrary, snatching the title away from Verstappen is no small task. The four-time champion would be fuelled to amass his fifth title in succession and etch his name in the history books.
Lando Norris would be a mature version of himself in 2025
Over the 2024 season, Norris’ flaws became extremely evident. He often found himself going backward after the starting lights which often led him to finish behind his rivals. This consistently lost him points in the championship standings and he was even under threat from Charles Leclerc to lose the runners-up spot.
Subsequently, the 25-year-old admitted he would look back on his mistakes and improve on them. This would lead to the foundation of his becoming a more mature driver.
On the other hand, Norris would not be alone in benefitting from the caliber of McLaren. His teammate Oscar Piastri is known as a fierce driver and would not let Norris drive away into the distance. So, the Briton’s ride may not be as smooth sailing as he would be hoping for in the upcoming campaign.
