Lando Norris won the 2025 driver’s title after a long-fought battle with Max Verstappen. The Briton could only manage to win the title with a two-point lead over the runner-up, Verstappen.

However, many people believe the Briton not to be the rightful winner of the title this year. Now, ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher shares his brutal opinion on the rightful winner of the 2025 season title.

Lando Norris suffered from a season full of ups and downs in the 2025 season. The Briton managed to perform well in the final few races and clinched the title lead from Oscar Piastri.

Norris could have lost the driver’s title if he finished P4 or below at the Abu Dhabi GP, but he managed to come in P3 and hence win the title. Now, the Briton was already suffering from intense hate and backlash in the 2025 season, and Ralf Schumacher joined the hater train as well.

Despite dominating the grid in terms of performance, Lando Norris suffered from booing by the crowd while winning races. Though he did not care about the outside noise, it still must have taken a toll on his mental health. Moreover, Max Verstappen finished the season as the driver with the most race wins and podium finishes.

As such, Ralf Schumacher boldly claimed that the best driver did not win the driver’s title in the 2025 season, pointing towards Lando Norris’ seven race wins as compared to Verstappen’s eight.

The German asserted that Max Verstappen was clearly the best driver in the entirety of Formula 1, and it was a simple fact that was true. Schumacher clearly stated that this was a fact and was not up for debate.

You have to conclude that Verstappen is the best driver in Formula 1. That’s simply true. If you look at it that way, the best driver didn’t win this year. You have to be absolutely clear about that.

Ralf Schumacher labels Max Verstappen as a ‘true leader’

Max Verstappen remained the majority points scorer for Red Bull despite their struggling pace. The Dutchman single-handedly helped Red Bull achieve the P3 spot in the constructors’ championship and kept up with positive results. Meanwhile, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri cracked under pressure and suffered from a slump in multiple races.

As such, Ralf Schumacher insisted that there were several reasons that Max Verstappen couldn’t quite win the driver’s title against Lando Norris. Schumacher reckoned that the 28-year-old had to ‘start over again’ and rebuild himself from the ground up.

Regardless, the German declared that the four-time champion had become a true leader at Red Bull. Verstappen was seemingly a lone driver before, but with the help of everyone on his squad, he was now a unit.

There are of course several reasons for that: the car over the entire season, the restructuring within the team, the fact that they essentially had to start over again. Verstappen has become a true leader. He was a bit of a lone driver at first, but now it’s a unit.

Ralf Schumacher noted

Although the 2025 season was difficult for Max Verstappen, he will surely hope to bounce back in the upcoming year. Red Bull will aim to start the season on a high note and start dominating the track from the get-go.

For now, Verstappen will take a much-needed break from the sport and return with an even better form. The woes this year will surely motivate him to achieve even more in the new regulations with Red Bull.
