Ranked : F1 team’s car liveries for the 2023 season

Formula One car liveries have been the talk of the town for the past few weeks. After a F1 season gets over, fans are always eagerly waiting for the racing action to get underway. The month of February had the fans in a frenzy as the ten teams were going to reveal their challengers for the upcoming season. This give the team a chance to get closer to the fans. Months and months of preparation leads to that specific moment.

One has to be very careful while designing a F1 livery. Many teams get it wrong and only a few get it right. Sometimes, a good livery stays in the team for multiple years. McLaren’s famous Marlboro livery remained unchanged on the car for more than 20 F1 seasons. Meanwhile, Ferrari is known for their Red cars who have remained majorly unchanged all these years.

The 2023 season is one where the teams have been focused on shedding their car’s weight. Due to this, a lot of exposed carbon can be seen on this year’s cars. While some teams have adapted well to this radical change, others haven’t mastered the skills yet. However, that doesn’t stop us from ranking the liveries from worst to best. The list is as follows.

10) McLaren

McLaren had a decent livery for their 2022 F1 stint. A good amount of Blue, Papaya orange and black was blended into the car. However, one of their biggest pros have also become one of their biggest cons. McLaren has a lot of sponsors and their car for 2023 looks like it has been bombarded with them. There is just too much of a clutter on the car. This is why the MCL60 ranks last in my list.

9) Haas F1 team

While the 2023 Haas car is an improvement of the team’s last year’s iteration, it still fails to impress. The car’s livery look pretty basic. The livery itself is extremely simple which makes it look like one of the car designs that you would find on the F1 mobile racing game. There is a lot of black present on the Haas VF-23 which seems to be the norm for the 2023 season.

8 ) Williams

Williams have gone with a dark blue design for the 2023 season which is very similar to that of last year. However, it was interesting to see the Duracell logo placement on the car. Apart from that, there wasn’t anything that sparked curiosity in the car. The team itself hasn’t really been successful in the past few years. With the addition of Mercedes’s James Vowles, that might come to an end.

7) Aston Martin

Not much has changed in Aston Martin’s 2023 F1 challenger. The shade of green seems to be slightly different. However, the team has imparted Red Bull’s plan of keeping the same livery each year. The neon green line at the bottom looks nice. A radical change in the livery to make it Lime green completely would have sat well with the fans. However, just like their 2022 season, the team has been a bit disappointing.

6) Alpine

Alpine F1 team will be running an all pink livery for the first 3 rounds of the season. However, the original livery is the one that is being considered. The Combination of Blue and Pink looks amazing in the sun. All the colours of the car pop out. However, it would have been great if the team opted to go with a completely pink car for the whole season. The only complaint from this car is exposed carbon making it look a bit odd.

5 ) AlphaTauri

AlphaTauri got Orlen on board as a sponsor for the 2023 F1 season. The company was previously sponsoring Alfa Romeo. One of the key improvements that the company made was the beautification of the car. Not much has changed in the team’s livery except the Red Orlen branding all over the vehicle. It has turned an average looking livery into an absolute beauty.

4) Ferrari

Ferrari had their name engraved on the rear wing for the 4th time in all of its F1 history. This has deemed the livery to be truly special. With a new principal at the helm, the team looks confident ahead of the 2023 F1 season and so does their car. The red never misses when it comes to the Scuderia. The exposed carbon on the sidelines of the Ferrari is the only thing that could be changed.

3) Red Bull

Red Bull have used the same livery for multiple years. Although they have made a few tweaks here and there, the team hasn’t made any radical changes when it comes to the car’s livery. Over the years, the livery has become pretty iconic. It’s as if the team got it right in their first and only attempt. They say “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” That is exactly what the team has following all these years.

2 ) Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo has a knack for making the most beautiful liveries in the pinnacle of motorsport. With Exposed carbon fibre becoming a norm for 2023, the team replaced the white in the car with black. It is fair to say that this livery is an absolute beauty among the crowds . However, the pattern was not very convincing to get it the top spot. If the red and black in the car was positioned better, the top spot would easily go to then. Nevertheless, we have a car that’s fully ready for Las Vegas.

1) Mercedes

The moment this livery was revealed to the public, many knew that this was the one. The meaning behind the all black livery has deep roots. However, for the 2023 season, the team chose to go fully black in order to have as much exposed carbon as possible. The level of intellect required for this move was substantial. The neon driver numbers on the car make it look meant on track. That seems to be their goal for the upcoming season and that is why it deserves the top spot in the standings.

The 2023 F1 season kicks off on 5th March as the Formula One circus goes to Bahrain. Apart from the above mentioned liveries, we will also get to see 4 different liveries on the track over the season. Alpine will be racing with a BWT pink livery for the first three rounds. Meanwhile, Red Bull will let the fans chose its livery for the three US races. It will be interesting to see what happens as the excitement for the upcoming season is unparalleled.
