The McLaren F1 team has performed exceptionally well in the 2024 season. They are leading the constructors’ championship race by a margin of 21 points over Ferrari, whereas Red Bull has been left in the dust by the two outfits.

Amidst this, Red Bull’s Technical Director, Pierre Wache, has slammed the papaya outfit for exploiting too many grey areas in the ongoing season. The Milton-Keynes-based team has so far managed to amass only 581 points in comparison to McLaren’s 640.

I think it’s so difficult to develop that I think some grey areas are so attractive as an engineer. When you see the rear wing of McLaren, I’m sorry, but it’s more than grey, and they use it for multiple races. Because, without that, Baku, they will not win. Even our constructors’ championship will be completely different.

Wache, via his comments, has especially targeted the work McLaren has been doing on its rear wing. There was a point in the ongoing campaign when Zak Brown‘s team was under criticism for allegedly using a mini-DRS on their rear wing.

Lando Norris admits to ‘learning a lot’ in the 2024 F1 season

McLaren, despite leading the title race this year, has not had an easy time. It was only from Miami onwards that the team started putting in consistent performances. Lando Norris has had a first-hand experience of his team’s progress.

While Norris recently lost out on the drivers’ world championship against Max Verstappen, he believes that he has learned a lot this year.

What a year it’s been, and I’m so very proud of the whole year. I am happy with the work I have done. I have beaten people I needed to beat. And at the same time, there are things I need to improve, but I have learned a lot this year. Maybe it is a year too late, and I wish I could have learned some things earlier, but some things you learn only when you experience them for the first time.

Norris and Verstappen have had quite a few brutal on-track tussles in the ongoing season. Because of this, they had a few verbal back-and-forths as well, but with the championship decided, the Brit is at ease and is determined to perform even better in the 2025 F1 season. The 25-year-old driver has been tipped by many to take the fight to Verstappen once again next year.
