Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are arch-rivals in Formula 1. The two went head-to-head for the world championship in 2021 with the Red Bull star emerging victorious. While Hamilton has not been in a straight fight with Verstappen since then, fans always expect some drama when they get close on-track. Now, Dutch racer Rudy van Buren has joked over the duo’s recent clash at the Hungarian GP.

Both Verstappen and Hamilton were having a difficult run at the Hungarian GP last weekend. The two drivers were not happy with their respective cars. Though, Max Verstappen was trying to make some progress. As the reigning world champion came right alongside Lewis Hamilton, the Ferrari driver seemingly lost control and went off-track. This incident sparked controversy and the reigning world champion was summoned by the Stewards. Luckily, the Red Bull star got away without a penalty.

Rudy van Buren did not have any sympathy for Lewis Hamilton over the incident. The Dutchman laughed over the entire ordeal. He claimed that Max Verstappen simply scared the Briton out of the track, getting the door open and overtaking the Ferrari without making contact. So much so, van Buren reckoned that Hamilton just went off-track by his own mistake.

We (Verstappen, ed.) show our nose. Then we shout: ‘Boo!’ That’s how the door opens and then you’re past, without contact. He (Hamilton, ed.) just drove off himself.

F1 analyst gives clear verdict on Max Verstappen’s clash with Lewis Hamilton

Verstappen and Hamilton have a bad history. In 2021, the two drivers had several collisions on-track, something that led to massive controversies during their title fight. At the Hungarian GP, it seemed that fans could witness another such incident when the two went wheel-to-wheel. Though, F1 Analyst Allard Kaiff insisted that Hamilton didn’t need to give the Red Bull much room to begin with.

Kaiff pointed out that the two have a history of incidents every time they go up against one another. However, he pointed out that Max Verstappen had enough space on-track during the time of the incident and Lewis Hamilton didn’t need to give more room either. However, the reigning world champion was frustrated for being stuck behind the Ferrari. Thus, Verstappen simply went for it and got past Hamilton.

If both keep driving, you have an accident. Max was indeed right on the kerbstones on the inside and didn’t need much space. So Lewis didn’t have to give him much either. Max had enough. Before that, he was almost driven off and Lewis really held him back. And he was so slow that Max thought: ‘You sort it out yourself.

Certainly, this incident was not the worst seen by fans when it comes to these two F1 champions. Rather, it was Lewis Hamilton who seemed far more impacted. The Briton is having a hard time mentally in F1 and he decided to stay silent following the race. On the other hand, Max Verstappen strongly defended himself, as he believed he was simply racing.
