Home hero Sergio Perez has been in high spirits during the ongoing 2024 Mexican Grand Prix weekend. He has been extremely busy with various commitments but when it came to his on-track exploits during Friday running, he had a pretty average day.

Sergio Perez ended FP1 and FP2 well outside the top five and was seen struggling a bit in his RB20. However, despite this, he is not letting his shoulders drop and thus, has asserted he is fully focused on producing a ‘great qualifying’.

Looking at the reaction of the six-time Grand Prix winner, it is quite clear that he wants to do something special in front of his home crowd. However, it will not be easy to do a better job in qualifying than the in-form Ferrari drivers or the lights of Lando Norris and Max Verstappen.

Christian Horner pleased seeing ‘fantastic support’ for Sergio Perez

While Sergio Perez has made his intentions known ahead of a high-stakes Mexico City qualifying session, Red Bull boss Christian Horner is pleased for the Mexican. The latter feels it is ‘fantastic’ to see the huge support for his driver in his home country.

We’re back in Mexico and as ever, it’s absolutely fantastic to see the support for schecoperez and the Team at his home race. Unfortunately, we were limited on track time today due to some disrupted sessions and a PU issue on Max’s car. We’ll continue to investigate this evening and resolve ahead of tomorrow’s sessions.

Sergio Perez is in desperate need of a strong result at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez racing circuit. He has had a torrid 2024 and is under real threat of losing his seat to either Yuki Tsunoda or Liam Lawson.

Keeping this in view, Perez can’t afford any slip-ups from Mexico City onwards. The RB20 produced a decent performance in Austin where his teammate was able to extract the maximum out of it. Perez will have to do the same in the upcoming qualifying session and also in the race to slightly solidify his chances for 2025.
