Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was on a blinder at the 2024 Azerbaijan GP, until his race was brought to an abrupt end courtesy of a crash with Carlos Sainz. Perez was on it from the get-go in the 51-lap race and showed tremendous pace in his RB20.
Keeping in view how well the challenger performed, Sergio Perez feels Red Bull has managed to get back the pace in the RB20. Since the start of the second half of the campaign, Perez and Max Verstappen have complained about the car lacking raw pace.
Had the Mexican not gotten himself into a crash, he could have at least managed a third-place finish. While talking about the same in an interview, he asserted that Red Bull has got the ‘speed back’ in the inconsistent car.
But we know we still have a lot of work to do. You see how Max struggled, when we are a bit off in terms of set-up. We have made a good step, but we need two more steps like that.Sergio Perez in conversation with Telegraaf’s Erik Van Haren

"Maar we weten dat we nog veel werk te doen hebben. Je ziet hoe Max worstelde, als we er iets naast zitten qua set-up. We hebben een goede stap gezet, maar hebben nog twee van zulke stappen nodig." #F1
Looking at the reaction of the 34-year-old, it is quite clear that he is very pleased with how his car performed in Baku. Moreover, he has urged the Red Bull crew to keep further improving the car to help him and Verstappen go for as many victories as possible in the remaining races.
Christian Horner feels Carlos Sainz ‘drifted across’ in crash with Sergio Perez
While Sergio Perez is leaving Baku with mixed feelings, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has blamed Carlos Sainz for the crash. He stated that the Spaniard was to blame for the horrific crash with Perez.
Checo deserved a lot more. I was just looking at the replay and you can see Carlos start to drift across the circuit. So, very disappointing, he should at very least have been on the podium today.Christian Horner said (via Sky Sports F1)
Perez has been on a horrendous run at the pinnacle of motor racing. His solid performance in Baku came as a surprise to many and this is one of the main reasons why Horner feels very disappointed for him.
However, keeping in view that the Singapore GP is also held at a street circuit, Perez will have a good opportunity to once again fight for the win/podium. Several eyes will be glued on the Mexican during this week’s event.
